User Submitted Battery 12 volt (Drop Ship Pack) Reviews (cont...)Date: 2005-09-08 Grandkid's Toy This battery was expensive! Little bitty thing, but HEAVY. The grandkids come to the farm and ride the John Deere Gator. The battery stopped working after 2 years use. Got the new battery, charged it -- and the little ones are happy again. Amazon is cheaper than the John Deere dealer.... The only thing better is being in front of Dad or Grandpa on the real John Deere tractors. Date: 2005-03-25 Buyer Beware Battery is way overpriced. Contact Battery Store near you! I did and found this same exact battery type(2-6volt Batteries) for much less. While there they told me I could use a low amp 12v Deep Cycle battery instead. It did take some time wiring (FUSED LINK IS A MUST) but is well worth it. Lasts all day and you can charge it at a 2 amp "trickle charge" with a "amp selectable" car battery charger. All told it cost me less than $60 for everything. It now longer just "Takes Up Space". Date: 2004-12-18 Battery stinks! Our battery quit recharging after about a year. It is very dissappointing to charge a battery for hours and then have to tell your little one that it didn't work. It has been difficult to find another battery. I thought the Fisher price 12-volt would work but it did not connect. Apparently, you have to buy this brand, which, by-the-way, cost about a third of the cost of our tractor! What can you do? Date: 2004-08-06 You MUST follow the directions to the T! UPDATE June 2006..still working great! --------------------- OK, updating this for kicks and giggles as of October 2005. We still have the battery and it workds great. You really must follow the instructions. Just wanted to let people know I stand by what I wrote. ------------------------------------------------ We have this battery and it works great. We were very skeptical because of all the bad reviews. However, if you follow the instructions to the T it works great. The initial charge MUST be 18 hours. We did ours 24. You CANNOT run this battery completely dead. Once you see the toy start to lose it's speed where first is really doggy, then you must take the battery out and charge it. Again, it must be charged the entire cycle of 18 hours. We have been following these instructions (which are the manufacturers) and it works great. My son can get about 3 hours if running it nonstop. Which he has done a few times. Don't try to quick charge this because it is not made to do that. Also, you must charge it once every month when it is not being used (i.e, winter months). Again, the instructions per the manufacturer. Date: 2004-07-07 Don't buy this battery... My son has the John Deere Power Pull Tractor which uses this battery. Due to the numerous complaints about the battery, and because the battery that came with the tractor only lasts about 30 minutes before needing a recharge, I decided to take a different route. I bought a 12 volt battery intended for lawn tractors/snow mobiles/etc. It will cost a heck of a lot less than Peg Perego's battery. I then spliced the wires from the tractor, the red one is positive, obviously, and connected them to the battery. I then used a piece of wire to hold the new battery down. It works perfectly and literally runs an entire day before needing a recharge. And of course I use a car battery charger to charge it. So, you'll save money and you kids will get MUCH more enjoyment!
