User Submitted Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX Certified Computer Speaker System (Black) Reviews (cont...)Date: 2009-12-22 They're Klipsch :o) I first fell in love with Klipsch in the 80s when I purchased a set of Klipsch Cornwall II speakers. I was expecting good things from them for a computer speaker system but was blown away by the ProMedia 2.1s. Highs and mids are crystal clear and BIG. Bass booms, a little more than I am use to, so I backed the sub off a little until it was what I wanted. These speakers are more than I expected am am more than satisfied with their performance thus far. These are high quality speakers both in sound output and construction. Date: 2009-12-17 Great Long Lasting Sound I've had the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 system for a little over 6 years now. It came with my computer when I bought back in 2003 and it never let me down. After 6 years it still sounds like new and still shakes my house when I want it to. Date: 2009-12-06 Great if it works - mine didn't This review is well after the fact, but I feel a need to balance out the overwhelming positive reviews. I bought this unit two years ago as a Christmas present. Hooked up fine to a laptop and worked great ... for a few weeks. Then the right speaker totally went out. After running some tests by switching wires and speakers, I determined the problem to be in the subwoofer. The subwoofer input for the right speaker (the part where you insert the red and black wires) is defective. I should have returned the unit right then, but my wife was using it and was fine with sound coming from just one speaker. My bad. When it was functioning properly, the sound was terrific. No complaints. But there appears to be quality issues with this system, as evidenced by other users having similar problems. There is also a guy on ebay who specializes in simply fixing the subwoofer for this system ... hmmmmm. Trouble is, you have to ship it to him. Not worth the time and energy, especially at this point. I paid about $100 for this system and will just chalk it up to a bad experience. Not worth paying another $25-30 or more for parts, shipping, etc., and then wondering if the problem will really be fixed. I'll simply purchase another system - but a different brand. I know Klipsch has a great reputation and this system got rather spectacular reviews, which influenced my original decision. But once burned with a defective product, I'll look elsewhere next time. Buyer beware! Date: 2009-11-24 Enjoy wonderful sound while you have it! It's so sad. These speakers sounded so great when I bought them, and considering the price, well they should have too. I connected them to my computer and was very happy with them. Then, as you can read from *many* others (try the forum on the Klipsch site), they fell apart, in just over a year. The contact between subwoofer and rest of system failed, both sides of it, and I suspect other things too, and troubleshooting and repair means pulling the whole thing to bits with a soldering iron. That's where it is now - broken and in bits. As for so many others, the dealer in my case was completely uninterested and unhelpful. Be warned - a very unreliable product. Date: 2009-09-28 FAR SUPERIOR TO BOSE At a store, I tested the Bose Companion 3 Series II costing $250 and discovered the criticisms others have stated in their reviews are accurate. The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX system cost only $150 and it is far superior to the Bose at $250. I don't even think "far superior" is adequate to provide a comparison because there is NO comparison. The $250 Bose sounds like a good quality pair of $50 speakers whereas the Klipsch for $100 less sounds like my main stereo system I paid $2,000 or $3,000 for 15 years ago. The Bose sounds thin and tinny; the Klipsch has a full bodied sound and that's even with the subwoofer on minimum. Honestly, I was expecting to like the Bose and was prepared to spend the extra money, but upon hearing the sound I was stunned. I'm not a Bose basher but the Companion 3 is not worth $250 and I agree with another reviewer who states that you are wasting your money. If I were shopping and comparing $50 or $60 speakers, I certainly would get the Bose, but that's not what I (and you if you're reading this) am shopping for. Save $100, get the Klipsch and receive a true top quality sound comparable to an expensive stereo system. If you're determined to get the Bose, at least go to a store first and listen to it, then compare it to the Klipsch. You too will discover that these two systems aren't even comparable at all.
