The height is adjustable, and at the lowest height it is easy for him to use. He enjoys all the features including the chalkboard, the dry erase side and I bought a roll of paper for him to paint on. You do need to prep the chalkboard as instructed in the instructions before first us Date: 2008-04-11 Artistic expression My 4 1/2- and 2 1/2- year olds love this easel. They enjoy using the chalkboard, dry-erase board, and also painting on it. My husband said it was relatively easy to put together. The only improvements I'd recommended are making the heights of the boards adjustable (my 2 1/2-year old has to use a small step stool to paint) and allowing the easel to fold for easy storage (the 2 sides don't fold into one another). All in all, it is a good easel for the $ (I paid around $38 on Amazon). Date: 2008-04-04 This Easel and Companion set is Fantastic!!! I just recently purchased The Melissa & Doug Easel and Companion set for my little girls and it's FANTASTIC!!! They love it it as do I. The quality for the price is great. It's a really nice looking unit too! I was pleasently surprised to see the quality of the companion set items too. The brushes are super nice. They don't look cheap at all. The eraser is most definitly made of very good material. I can't get over the quality of the chalks, it really has surpassed my expectations on quality even the colors are nice. The chalks are not as messy as I thought they would be and seem to last long too! My girls have been playing with the easel daily especially the chalkboard. They play with this easel more than any other toy they own. I feel very good about my purchasing this. I'm so glad I did and kind of wished I had gotten it sooner. I am also very thankful I have found this on Amazon before I had bought one of a lesser quality Easel and companion set items from a local toy shop! Date: 2008-03-23 A Good Buy I've only owned this easel for a few months now, but I think it was a good buy. I bought this easel with homeschooling in mind and so far it's working out well. It's easily assembled and the paint will absolutely not dry out. My one disappointment in the overall design was that the dry erase board wasn't magnetic. No, the chalkboard isn't the best in the world, but then, it's not real slate either. It works well enough that your tots won't notice the difference. If they're super picky about their artistic media, then you can do as others have and paint it with chalkboard paint. We use a mix of sidewalk chalk and regular chalk. The sidewalk chalk is a bit harder on the surface of the chalkboard(naturally it's very abrasive) and produces ALOT more dust than regular dustless chalk, but it's more economical. I was able to buy the Melissa & Doug paper rolls locally for 5 or 6 dollars for 18", 75 ft but so far it's been money well-spent. I'm still looking for cheaper, off-brand paper rolls so that I won't have to worry that they're using "too much" paper. Threading the paper through the slot for drawing/painting is easy enough. If the end of the paper roll becomes frayed and difficult to rethread, simply take your scissors and cut the end off and retry. Changing the roll itself is quite easy,and the entire easel should be(from the way it was assembled)very easy to disassemble and store. I've already adjusted the height to suit my shorter child and it was a few minutes of my time and very little effort. Date: 2008-03-21 Fun! I bought this for my 3 year old and 1 year old. Love it. My husband had a hard time putting it together, he said the instructions were bad. But, he managed and it looks great. The kids like it and it seems durable.
