I bought it for my daughter for Christmas and she has had so much fun with it! She loves the chalkboard and white board. We have not had a chance to paint yet, but, I have no doubt she will love it, too! The height is perfect for her and I love that it has three height adjustments! It was so easy to put together and the directions weere fantastic! Very well laid out! Durability is very good also. I did buy more dry erase pens, just so we coud have more colors. Also, the one that comes with it is kind of faint, like it is out of ink. But, I do highly reccommend this product to everyone! So far, eveything we have ever bought of Melissa and Doug have been wonderful (qualiity wise and fun)!!!! Date: 2008-12-29 Great Value We bought this to replace a smaller one we gave our daughter 2yrs ago. This thing is pretty big and sturdy, I installed a tray between the legs under the paper roller and the girls are set for a while with this. Of all the gifts they opened this year it was by far the favorite of the lot and only cost $25. The chalk board works fine and I didnt need to paint it or anything so maybe as another reviewer stated they fixed the problem they were having. My only downside to this easel that I could think of is that small children will probably try and loosen the colorful knobs on the outside of the stand. This could have painfull side effects should it fall on them. Date: 2008-12-29 Great Easel I purchased this easel three times recently as gifts for my daughter, niece, and a family friend, bc the price on this just kept getting better and better. There are already a lot of great reviews on here so I just thought I'd add a note about the chalk board since there were many complaints about it. There was a chip on the edge of the chalk board when we opened the packaging. It wasn't a big deal bc we assembled it as it was for Christmas. I called Melissa and Doug the day after Christmas and they were great about it; they are sending me a new one at no charge. The assembly on this easel is so simple that it will be easy to switch the old one out with the new one. Since I was already on the phone with them, I asked about the chalk board needing to be seasoned as other reviewers mentioned here. My instructions did not mention seasoning. The customer service rep let me know that the chalk board was redesigned so people do not have to season it anymore. Also, with the redesign, people should not have the same issue that others had in the past. I tested this on our chipped board and she was right. My daughter has no problem drawing easily on this board and there were no weird scratches or any problems at all. The $.99 IKEA chalk I purchased worked just fine. I purchased a roll of paper at IKEA too (which also works great w/this`easel BTW). This board actually has a different (but nicer feeling) surface than other chalk boards. It's a great easel so far, and I'm hopeful it will be around for years to come. Date: 2008-12-28 My daughter is in Heaven! My 7 daughter got this for Christmas from Santa. She spends hours playing school and asked Santa for a dry erase board for her "Classroom". In Her eyes, Santa went above and beyond with this item because not only is it bigger than what she thought, it also has a chalkboard on one side. She pointed out that it is like the easel in her second grade teacher's class. She loves it! From a mom's point of view, I could not be more pleased. It is sturdy and the price was right for me on sale for $41.49. I was a little concerned when I saw the chalk board because it was not the traditional material you would see for a chalkboard. I really don't know how to explain the chalkboard material, but what ever it is, it works just as well as the traditional "blackboard". It does involve assembly. Make sure you follow the instructions to avoid having pieces on backward. ;-) Date: 2008-12-28 My daughter loves it I bought this for my 4 year old daughter for Christmas. She loves to draw and write and I wanted to encourage her love of art. She really likes using this. We bought her a set of dry erase markers from Office Depot and they worked out great. I was a little disappointed when I got it because the description said it came with one roll of paper, but it didn't. However, the markers and chalk have been a hit. The three-pack of paper rolls was out of stock, but I've ordered them for later delivery. Overall, a great toy.
