User Submitted Vtech - V.Smile Baby - Infant Development System ReviewsDate: 2009-01-05 Not Age Appropriate I bought this for christmas for my 21 month old. I have mixed feelings on this one. My daughter is just too young for this. The reaction time from when she hits the buttons to the action on the TV is just a little slow. She can't compregend that pressing a button on the console makes something happen on the TV. Therefore, it never grabs her attention. She just prefers to pound on the console itself. Even that only holds her attention for a few minutes. I will say she does throw it, knock it over, steps on it sits on it and pounds on it but it has not broken yet. She also figured out how to remove the cartridge, which she likes to chew on and how to press the power button (which is a big bright blue lighted button) which talks when you press it. That button gets a lot of use. I think I will pack this a way and pull it out in a few months and see if she likes it then. Date: 2009-01-05 Don't buy this toy!!!! I purchased this for my daughter when my grandson was 14 months old and asked her for it back when she said he wasn't interested in it. After viewing the cartridges I have to say I'm pretty dissappointed in the graphics and intend on putting the whole thing in the trash! If you and your child have watched any of the Baby Einstein DVDs this product will not hold your interest. I can recommend Leap Frog Baby's Little Leaps. My grandson loves this toy and never tires of playing with it. Date: 2009-01-03 Not impressed I am frustrated by this system. I suppose when compared to one of those other systems (like Wii or DS) it is a bargain but I resent the fact that if you want to upgrade, the cartridges for older kids are not compatible with this system. First, for those of us who didn't want our children to watch TV until they were 2, it's pointless. We received this as a gift for our son's first b-day and before I could stop my husband from tearing into it, he had opened it up and made it impossible to return. Now that we are comfortable with our two-year-old using it, I am not impressed with the graphics OR the audio. All the cartridges compatible with the system are labeled for 18-36 months so now, my son would only get a years worth of usefulness out of it IF we chose to keep it and use it. Don't waste your money. Date: 2008-12-07 Not sure what people expected, but we love it Im not sure what people expected for a [...] toy, but it is great. The games are adorable and my 16 month old seems to love it. Although she does not quite understand the connection of the pushing the buttons for a response just yet (we just received it 2 days ago) I know she will. The games are educational and fun at the same time. I know a lot of people wrote on the poor graphics, but again this is a $30 game system for toddlers. They do not need crazy Xbox 360 graphics. The graphics are a good quality, especially for the age group. We hooked it up and got it started within a minute. I would recommend getting rechargable batteries since both the controller and console run on batteries (or you can purchase the adapter seperately). All in all, its great! I wouldn't hesitate to buy it...just because other peoples children didn't like it, doesn't mean yours won't like it! A lot of the reviews turned me away from this, but I am glad I didn't listen to all of the negatives! Date: 2008-12-05 Has great possiblities... When I first saw this product in the store, I was thrilled. I've read a few other reviews by frustrated parents whose children wouldn't leave the computer alone. This was a way my son could work with the keyboard and have something "happen" without locking up my computer. It was requested for Christmas and given to him as a gift. We worked with him on the play alone function at first, and he really liked how it would talk to him when he pushed the buttons. My son, however, is one of the most impatient people when it comes to getting results. Ergo, the "gregreegreegreen square" began to rake on our nerves quite a bit. The noise button (cloud) was another favorite that he would never allow to complete its full function. We decided when he was a little over a year to hook up the TV console and let him play with it. He really enjoyed the stories and graphics. However, we continued to run into the impatience problem. He loved the pop-up graphics when you would push a button so much, that when we put it on a "sequencing" game, he would never get it right. (ex. Console: Push heart, star, triangle, heart. My son: square, square, square, square.) The games also never tell your child he/she is wrong. They just say "that's different." One game we have to go with the console is Winnie-the-Pooh's Hundred Acre Wood Adventure. One of the games is Tigger paints with colors. It has three different levels of play. On one level, the child is to pick the color the console tells him/her to pick. "This is a yellow bee. Push the yellow button." My son, impatient imp that he is, pushes the green square. "Oh, a green bee," the console tells him. So, he never really learned that bees are yellow. He learned he could turn a bee green by pushing the green button. My overall review: This is a wonderful learning tool as it has games that run the gamet on counting, word recognition, sound identification... It just didn't fit my wonderfully impatient child. This product has a great range of possiblities for a child that has patience.
