good enviorment, bad shipping
The Ant farm gel is good and durable and very well made, the shipping time and condition is very bad. They said they were going to ship 25 ants, but only shipped 17. The ants took 4 months to come and most of them were rock dead, Only 4 ants are alive and eating the green gel now. The enviorment is good though, the plastic is very hard and durable.

Ants are cool!
Pretty fascinating habitat...the instructions are easy to follow, the ants are digging like crazy, and my two kids love 'em! The lighted mini-aquarium is sturdy, the ants arrived in the mail as advertised, and the tunnels are quite interesting.
While these ants may bite, if you follow the instructions, you never get close to touching them. Bottom line - my kids really enjoy this colony. I can't recommend naming the ants, though, they all look sort of alike!

Interesting, but Harvester Ants can bite and STING!
This is an attractive item, but great care must be taken with the Red Harvester ant colony mailed to you. These ants are aggressive and they bite and sting. Their venom is dangerous for those people who tend to be allergic. The pain of the Harvester Ant's sting has been compared to that of a Paper Wasp! Check it in Wikipedia. OUCH!!

I can't believe that these are for kids! Give 'em a ladybug kit.
