User Submitted Ruff Stuff Air Blasters Motorized Mech Tommy 20 Dart Blaster ReviewsDate: 2009-01-05 Firepower is king! Owning 8 Nerf or Nerf type guns I can now consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur. I decided to get this "automatic" gun despite the negative reviews I read because I desperately needed more firepower! I was at first curious as to how this gun worked because I couldn't see how 3 AA batteries could build up that much air pressure in such a short time, but I've found that this gun doesn't use air pressure at all. It shoots out the Nerf darts by pushing them through two spinning wheels much like how an automatic football or tennis ball thrower works. Here are my comments on the most important features of a Nerf gun: 1) Power: Quite powerful, more power than your regular spring powered piston pushing Nerf gun and as powerful as some of the hand pumped air pressure Nerf guns. Grade: Good. 2) Speed: As advertised, this gun can pump out shots quickly and plaster your opponent with bullets before he can hand pump out 2 or 3. This is really a machine gun. Only problem is that you'll run out of bullets in 15 seconds if you fire continuously. Grade: Excellent. 3) Jamming: Yes it does, but then so does any other Nerf gun. All Nerfs misfire or jam to some degree due to badly fitting bullets or misrotating barrels so this isn't a big deal to me. The problem I see is that you have to squeeze the trigger firmly. If you half heartedly squeeze the trigger the gun can jam, so I think some of the jamming can be put down as operator error. I just wished that the two manufacturers would make their bullets exactly the same. The way it is now, there are some small differences in the bullets and some guns can't fire bullets not made specifically for them. Grade: Somewhat. Pros and Cons: As this is a battery operated gun, you can't really use it in a duck and fire situation as continuously using the battery will run it down quickly. For duck and fire, you'd need a manual gun. This gun is for when your opponent is being pinned down and you run up to him and score like 20 shots on his behind. And because of the noise of the motor you can't use it in any stealth situation either because your opponents will hear you from a mile away. So as any true Nerf warrior knows, you need more than 1 gun at all times. You use this as a machine gun when your opponents are charging you or when you need to spray them with bullets; for those purposes this is truly an excellent gun and a necessary addition to any good arsenal. This gun comes in green or yellow, either one is a must buy! Date: 2008-09-03 Happy Blasting This is a great toy, especially for the amount of firepower it gives in a nerf fight/war. It does have a tendency to jam on occasion due to the wide fire chamber where the two plastic spinners eject the dart. Its rather easy to unjam, but if your planning on aiming then forget it. The accuracy gets better when fired less often, and with a pause inbetween trigger pulls. I find that it is alot of fun to play with, but is not recomended for upstairs/downstairs games due to the "unloading of the gun when fired at a downward angle. It is fine for upstairs assaults however, and that makes it all the more fun. I did have problems with refill darts until I found some nerf darts that work well for it. The nerf darts that work good are all the shorter suction darts. The Sonics made by nerf fly the best with any of the nerf based guns, but are to long for the tommy's magazine. [...] I recommend this toy to any fun loving enthusiast that doesn't wanna break anything with their children playing indoors. Some parents may want children to wear eye protection since this is shooting projectiles with force. Date: 2008-06-29 Thumbs down. We purchased this product for our grandson it didnt last 15 minutes before the on /off switch malfunctioned. it sounds like it has a short circuit. When operating this product the "rapid fire" cannot operate as advertised due to lack of air pressure causing a miss fire and the darts jam up into the gun barrel and tearing the suction cups off the darts. The battery compartment door screw was stripped for the start. Date: 2008-05-23 Do Not Buy This Gun Short and sweet: This gun stinks. This is the first day I have owned it and it hasn't been able to shoot thru 20 darts without jamming. In fact, it jams so much that I have already retired it to the corner of the room. I have tried the darts that came with the gun and other brand darts. They all jam, it doesn't matter which ones you use. I don't understand how this gun made it out of QA testing. Someone, somewhere along the line should have said: "But, guys, it doesn't really do what it is made to do. You know, shoot darts" Terrible, terrible, terrible. Date: 2008-03-11 Oh My GOD WOW is all i have to say. It will intimidate your pull action friends into submission. (Look up Assassination on wikipedia "old" kids and you will see why it rocks) does jam if you are trigger happy but just space it right to try the best foam dart gun I've ever owed. Eat your heart out Nerf.
