Basically just a practice tool
First I'll say that, like anything else I've ever purchased by Melissa & Doug, this item is very well-made. Very chunky, very sturdy, nice weight, smooth to touch. However, the shoe was not exactly what I was expecting. I assumed, since the product description mentioned "teaches your child", that there would be some sort of accompanying pamphlet, containing tips/tricks for the child. There is just the shoe and that's it. So I would consider this to be just a "practice shoe", nothing more. Had I known this before, I would not have purchased this item, since my son can use any old shoe in our house to practice on.

Its okay
Its a great idea but its kind of chunky and hard to hold. I have a two year old and a three year old and they keep trying to put their foot in it and it and end up getting stuck and frustrated. I wouldnt purchase this item again. I love Melissa and Doug products but this one still needs some work.

Durable and helpful
This is a well made product. The shoe is wooden and the lace is nice and long and hasn't frayed yet. My youngest daughter (2 1/2 years) does always want to put the shoe on (to no avail). It has been helpful for my eldest daughter (almost 4 years) to learn to tie a shoe. Although she hasn't mastered the art of shoe tying, I believe the wooden shoe is helping. I think this a better idea than all those books that explain how to do it because everyone seems to do it a little differently. I give the shoe 5 stars for the purpose it was intended for - Although don't expect your child to think it is the most fun "toy" ever!

Melissa and Doug has done it again!
Its funny how you take something like this, put it in front of a child that has been having difficulty learning to tie shoes and he learns in about 5 minutes. Amazing quality!

Great idea
My daughter is almost 5 and got this for Christmas. I love the concept and hope that she will use it eventually. Right now, she and her 3 year old sister would rather take the string off (it comes off completely which I don't like) and tie it around their necks and pretend to be puppies. So, for now it is on top of our fridge.
