User Submitted Melissa and Doug Wooden Sushi Reviews (cont...)Date: 2007-11-06 Fantastic, Unusual Little Novelty Item. This little toy holds no age boundary. We actually saw it in the fish section while we were buying packaged sushi and I just had to buy it for my daughter. She's 13 and a "japedophile", very addicted to the Japanese culture. We had so much fun with it we're buying a second one for her friend in Colorado who she met online! A real cute novelty item, sure to make anyone laugh. We leave it on the kitchen table, and someone actually said, "Ooh, sushi, can I have one?" Without realizing it was fake! Date: 2007-09-10 Love it! I think this is such a well built toy and teaches children about other foods! I love it and have other Melissa and Doug products that are just as great. Date: 2007-08-09 Great toy and impressive gift! I bought one for my 5 & 4 year olds who love going out for Japanese food and they just love serving sushi to their friends when they come to the house! I also bought one as a shower gift for a friend who adopted a 1 year old from China and everyone at the shower just loved it and thought it was so unique! Date: 2007-08-01 Sushi -adorable and educational too! I first bought this toy for my (then 4 year old) daughter, after reading the book "Yoko" by Rosemary Wells. Because sushi is featured prominently in this book, I knew my daughter would be interested. She has since spent many happy hours making her version of sushi(with spicy enchilada sauce.) The set is adorable and sturdy, and the included wooden knife and chopsticks insure that your child will have ample opportunity for fine motor skill enhancement. There is even a dish of soy sauce, velcro-on seaweed, and felt wasabi and ginger. I like this toy so much, that I just bought a second set for my 2 year old niece. A few of the pieces are small, so keep this in mind if you're buying this for a toddler! Date: 2007-07-10 BEST TOY EVER! I love this toy, I saw it and had to buy it being a huge Sushi fan. Since kids bore of toys quickly at a young age, I only bring this toy with us out to sushi so my 15 month old daughter can play with the bento box and pretend nigiri and maki. It has a cover that slides on holding the pieces inside. She isnt old enough to pretend or pick up the pieces with the velcro chopsticks but in time she will. I have already given this as a gift too. Melissa and Doug make a few other designs but none as cool. The pizza set is cute but I am saving it until the baby is older since the pieces are smaller. There is also a birthday cake one and a breakfast one. I emailed the company asking for them to design more for each kind of restaurant!! You wont be sorry if you buy this toy set, it will probably be a keepsake or a pass-a-long gift. If you love unique wooden toys this is the best one I've seen.
