User Submitted Discovery Exclusive Chem-X 1000 Childrens Science Lab ReviewsDate: 2008-10-24 Manual could be more user friendly/not for younger kids When we ordered the Electronic Gadget Lab (which we love, a five star buy IMO), we also ordered the Chem X-1000 to get free shipping. In hindsight, since my daughter is six years old, I'm not sure it was worth it. If you're looking for some fun chemistry experiments to play with with a younger child, perhaps this isn't your best choice. The manual is a lengthy black-and-white single-spaced book with experiments not well highlighted. It goes into great detail for several pages about how to perform chemical experiments in general (which is pretty boring to younger kids). If your child can't read at a higher level they may become frustrated. I have found it's better to dig through it myself first and organize what we'll do ahead of time - something I'd expect the manufacturer to have done when they wrote the manual. For the price and what was included, I am not terribly impressed. Date: 2007-05-14 Fine Gift LOUSY Delivery This is a fine gift--but the delivery was significantly delayed when the gift, en route to VA, was sent from OH to AZ to UT to OH to VA to Tn to VA. I ordered it in plenty of time for arrival for my niece's b-day--it arrived a week late due to this error. Date: 2007-05-13 Excellent set to encourage curiosity Not a short lived gift, this set will keep your child (& adults, too) experimenting for a long time. Test tubes, etc are made of plastic but it is made for kids after all. Well rounded basic set, clear instructions, ample carrying case, great price.
