User Submitted Transformers Movie Voyager Optimus Prime ReviewsDate: 2009-01-02 Fun toy, but a bit complex for some First, I want to make a note about the price of this item. This figure retails at about $19.99. As of the time of this writing (January 2009) it is priced at about $37.00 here at amazon, which is a bit much. I'm positive I've seen these going for the $19.99 price at Wal-Mart, so I'd recommend checking out the local shops first before buying here. Now as for the actual product... I had wanted a figure of this character from the movie, and was considering the Leader class, but didn't feel like forking out the $40 or $50 it cost at the time. However, this figure is a good substitution. Compared to it's larger counterpart, it looks slimmer and sleeker, and not so bulky, although the larger is packed with more features and is definitely more complex. Not that this figure is not complex. It has given some people trouble (as some reviewers give it a pretty low rating due to their inability to transform it). So if you want to pick one up, you should be prepared. If you're not used to Transformers, this may not be a good choice, whether as an adult or child. I also wouldn't recommend him for smaller, younger children. Anyway, they did a pretty good job of approximating what the character looks like in both modes, and the transformation process was a decent challenge for me (but I'm used to Transformers). He also features the "automorph" ability, which means if you move one part, another part moves in place by itself. This feature is confined mostly to the lower leg sections, and one has to remember not to hold on to certain pieces while using it. He features a good deal of possibility, with bendable arms, legs, knees and elbows, and also comes with two missile launchers. Maybe it's just mine, but the launchers are a bit loose, meaning they fire when not intended to. All in all, I'd say a pretty good figure. Also, he's scaled more accurately to most of the other deluxe and Voyager class figures of the line. But like most figures, a little time will probably be needed to convert him. Date: 2008-06-07 More Chinese Junk! I got this for my son based ont he review here that said that this toy was pretty durable. THIS TOY IS NOT DURABLE. We opened the package and two plastic pieces immediately fell off. Then as my son was playing with it about 5 more pieces of plastic fell off. There are so many panels that are spring loaded that are held on by weak plastic hinges that will just fall off. I should have known that this was junk when I saw this toy in the store with a bunch of clear rubber bands holding it together. I find it crazy that they have to use rubber bands to help this thing keep it's shape. Could you imagine buying a used car with a rubber band holding the door closed? When are we going to stop buying this plastic junk from China and force them to make higher quality stuff? Date: 2008-05-08 Optimusly Primed to Recommend this Transformer!!! Optimus Prime was drop shipped to Guam and from what I understand there are many knock offs imported there from many different parts of Asia that are not of the superior quality of this product. The kids are able to transform him without having him fall apart as the others have. This product may very well be made in China; however quality control is of optimal prime importance. Date: 2008-05-07 Optimus owns I am very impressed with this figure even though i thought i was going to hate it. It is the most durable Transformer figure i own. It looks great in robot mode and has excellent articulation. He uses the smoke stacks from vehicle mode as guns. Prime transforms into a blue and red Peter Built truck. The vehicle mode is also quite nice. Both the robot and vehicle mode are very detailed. One gripe. This Movie Voyager prime is not tall enough by my standards compared to the other Transformers. So I will be purchasing the leader class optimus prime. The reason this will not hurt the rating is because this is a movie voyager and can only be but so big. Date: 2008-01-21 Not too bad. Transformers are fun again, for this 36 year old, after seeing their quicksilver transforming sequences in the unexpectedly satisfying 'Transformers' film last year (2007). Morphing, already blase, has been immediately rendered antique in comparison with the realistically-engineered transformation patterns by which these hardwired puzzles with souls keep undercover. The problem, as far as children's toys are concerned, is that even these "dumbed-down" Transformers can be near-impossibly complex and frustrating to rubik back and forth between vehicle and Bot at the constantly changing whims of one's children. Transformers Movie Voyager Optimus Prime isn't as hard as Transformers Movie Deluxe Class Bumblebee 2008 Camaro--the only two I've had the pleasure of playing with of late, but even with the poor instructions that inevitably get lost, the Prime ain't an easy rig to rig up for children, or adults, unless, perhaps, one has a degree in mechanical engineering. Another reason I shouldn't have majored in English Literature.
