The only problem I had with the phone is that the box should specifically indicate that the download is Windows-only. This was not compatible with Mac OSX. Fortunately I have access to a PC at work and was able to download the file there. Ironically, I had to re-download "Michael" since when you pull out the tab it re-sets to no name. Date: 2008-12-22 Wish we knew No fewer than 4 adults and 2 computers were used trying to get this thing to say some other name than "Michael" - I see others had the same problem. After my husband and I both tried it, and the download said "100% successful" a million times, we gave it to my cousin to try it on her computer, thinking maybe it was a problem with mine. She tried it and the same thing. She finally took it back to the store, thinking it was defective, and got a new one. The new one did it too. After we all were ready to throw it through the window, it was discovered that there is some kind of tab you have to pull out of it in order to activate it. NOWHERE in the detailed instructions does it tell you this (we kept it in the box because we were going to wrap it back up for Christmas. Apparently you have to take it out of the box). PLEASE put this little detail in the instructions!!! This is why I gave it 2 stars - the kid hasn't even seen it yet - just based on the difficulty on programming. Date: 2008-12-20 why wasn't i lucky? it seems to me that there are lucky people who get an elmo talking phone that will work perfect and then there are people like me who get the dysfunctional phone that keeps calling you MICHAEL!!!! I have the same problem 100% download and still Michael Micheal Michael ... well i guess if your buying this for someone who is named Michael your in luck. For the rest of us it's hit or miss. Date: 2008-12-05 Can't get it to work This would be a great toy for any toddler, after all, Elmo knows your name. If you can just get it to download the name correctly. We have the cable, it seemed to download just fine, instructions are easy to follow in a point and click, and then the darn thing keeps calling you "Michael". Customer service is useless at F.-P. so we are returning it.
