Puppy Knows your name...if it is a common name
Puppy Grows And Knows Your Name Retriever
I purchased this new for my 5 year old son. He wanted it so bad from Santa. and even though I ordered two days before Christmas, Santa made sure it arrive Christmas Eve. Thanks to Amazon Santa elves! My son is thrilled with the pooch as dad doesn't like animals in the home. He plays for hours grooming and talking with his little girl pooch he named Goldie. It does not come with a USB cord but I unplugged the scanner from my computer and used it temporarily. I have Verizon high speed interenet and it took 5 minutes, then I plugged my scanner back in. There are choices of names for the owner and the dog and basically you choose which names and enter. You now own a dog who knows your sons name and is his best gal or pal and you don't have to beg your child to feed and water his dog! My sons name is Michael so...yes, it was there. The dog has a hard body under the light furry skin...but my son is happy, so mom is happy...Hope this helps make a decision

A cute little puppy!
My daughter (almost 5) got this puppy for Christmas. She just loves it! It's a white poodle, so I'm not sure how clean it will stay for how long or how you even go about trying to clean it, but she is having great fun with it!

I agree with others that it should specify in much larger print that it needs as USB cable that is not included, but for me it was not problem because I just used the one from my printer and in about 10 minutes, the whole download process was complete.

My daughter loves the fact that the puppy says her name. It's cute how it asks to be fed and brushed, too.

I would recommend this toy to others, my favorite part is that it doesn't need to be walked!

We Love it!
We bought this for our six year old daughter, but the whole family has enjoyed playing the puppy. You download the software that it comes with and then select your name from a long list or if it's not listed, type it in. Now the puppy knows who you are. Then, you name the puppy the same way. You do have to have a USB cable, that is not included, but most computer owners should have this stashed away in some drawer. The programming of the pup is easy and quick. The puppy's fur is soft and she is entertaining and fun to interact with. My eight year old has pointed out that the puppy does have an evil laugh . . . ha ha. Overall, I think we will end up purchasing another puppy for our three year old on her next birthday. Fun, Fun, Fun.

cute but
I bought this product for my 4 year old daughter and she loves it, but the only issue that I have with it, is when I purchased it I was not aware that it did not come with a USB cable. Luckily I bought another toy simliar to this one that did come with the cable, otherwise we would have had to spend additional money for the cable. It does grow and you can name it and it does know the name that you give it once you program it to do so.

Hesitant to buy but my girls love them!
We saw these at Costco for $[...]. My girls wanted them so badly. I heard about them during all discussions about Christmas presents. My girls (4 and 6) even prayed to get these toys! I went and bought them and then considered returning them thinking that these would be the kind of toys that are exciting for about a day. We kept them and gave them to the girls on Christmas morning. Not only were they a HUGE hit on Christmas, they are still the number one toy in the house. They go immediately to these puppies and watch to see if they will be growing. Each day, the puppy says new phrases which keeps it interesting. Honestly, I'm surprised they are as big a hit as they turned out to be. I'm happy for my girls that they are truly enjoying their puppies. It is just a toy with hardly any educational value aside from the daily measuring to see if the puppy has grown. Fisher Price could make a ton of money by including add ons like Vet care and grooming. The accessories all have sensors so the puppy "knows" it's bone and brush. Why not expand the options? Since the dog is USB compatible, they could offer downloads to expand your puppy's options. Might make it appeal to more kids.

As for the USB cord, we don't have the correct one here and with the holiday madness haven't run out to get one yet. Although the kids want to name their dogs, it's not stopping them from enjoying them on bit. If anything, it gives them something to look forward too in the life of their new puppy.

Overall, I'm happy with this purchase. I agree that older kids (8+) would get bored quickly unless they are the kind that really loves to play dolls and imaginative play.

Hope that helps!
