User Submitted Pixos Starter Set ReviewsDate: 2008-11-18 Not for Young Children I was given this kit for a gift for my 6 year old child. I didn't have a clue what this was, but my 6 year old had seen it on TV and knew exactly what it was. After "I" figured it out, we put it all together (beads in the pen, pick a design to make, etc.) and attempted to 'create' one of the picture provided. We started to place the 'balls' in the right place and found that the pen would release more than one 'ball' at a time. Since you have to be so precise, my 6 year old lost patience quickly and I ended up finishing the picture. Afterwards, we sprayed water on the beads and waited the 'ten minutes' recommended by the owners manual before picking it up. Within the first 3 minutes of 'picking it up', the beads started to seperate and we ended up putting the design back on it's holder to let it sit for a little longer. To make things short, it took a total of 7 days before it hardened enough to pick up and play with. Also, this week we tried to make another and after 24 hours the 'design' started to curl up in the shape of a "U". So, again we were frustrated that no matter what we did, this whole experience was a disaster. If your child hasn't developed the patience needed to 'wait' this long - I do not suggest buying this item. Date: 2008-11-17 I would not waste your money OK. My daughter received this for a birthday party. I was reluctant to keep it because, if you remember a year or so ago, under it's old name of "Aqua dots" it was recalled because the dots did not adhere, and they were poisonous! Now under the "Pixos" name it claims to be safety tested... yadda yadda yadda. Yes, the pen is useless, and causes frustration for a 5-6 year old, but with a lot of practice it will dispense in the right place. The dots DO NOT stick together. We tried it with a little water, medium and even a lot of water. We dried it for 10 minutes - no luck. We dried it for 20 - no luck. I sat there for 10 minutes with our hairdryer on high... NO LUCK. They get a bit sticky, dry on the surface, and still to not adhere. It was overall disappointing. Hmmm, the upside - it builds small motor skills, and keeps them busy for an eternity (but it keeps mom busy too). Date: 2008-11-14 Two things to know These sets work great but two things need to be remembered. For some children under 8 this toy can be frustrating as it requires very fine motor skills and patience to work with very small objects. the pen does work but requires some practice to know how much pressure is needed to release a bead. Second you need to use alot more water then they recommend and then let it dry for a day or two to really get a good bond. Just a few sprays like they suggest is usually not enough time to get the pixos sticky enough to be able to bond to each other. Date: 2008-11-12 Don't Buy It It was very frustrating to get the balls to stay in place and it took longer than 20 minutes for the design to dry. After the design dried, it fell apart too easily. My five year old got frustrated and never finished a full design on her own. I was finding balls on the floor for the next few days - I threw the whole thing away. Date: 2008-11-05 Terrible Product We received this item as a gift for my daughter's 5th birthday. The pen dispenser does not work properly. It releases more than one ball at a time and you can not get them to stay in the place you attempted to put it. She and I both tried, but were unsuccessful. We were unable to create their designs because the balls would not dispence into the correct places. Also, there were not directions on how much and what type of liquid to use to keep the "finished product" together. I used water in the squirt bottle provided, but the balls never did gel together. Also, the pen only held a few different colors, not all the colors that come with this starter set. You would have to empty and refil endless times to get their designs to work. Bottom line... don't waste your money on this useless product. It does not work and is not fun!
