User Submitted Battleship Reviews (cont...)Date: 2005-02-13 You've Sunk My Battleship! I just bought this game, because I remembered how much fun I had playing it when I was younger. This is one of those games that never gets old, and anyone from a child, to an adult can have fun playing it. You each have a console, with 2 grids: your ocean grid where YOUR ships are, and the striking grid. The object of the game is to shout out coordinates to try and sink your opponent's ships. By marking them in the grid above, you then strategize where your opponent has placed his/her ships. You either have a "hit", or "miss". Play continues until you have sunk all of the ships on the other player's console. There are many ways you can play this game. You can even make a few rules up if you like. There are also different forms of play in the instructions, inside the box. One example of play that I like: if you sink your opponent's Battleship, the game is automatically over, and you've won. All in all, this game is alot of fun. The consoles are pretty durable, and there are spots for you to store the ships, and the hit/miss pegs. As far as educational value, I think it would help children to work with grids, and strategizing. You have to be aware of what size ships you are dealing with and where they will fit on the grid (in the NON-hit spaces that remain on your opponent's grid). I prefer this version to the electronic version. There are no sound effects and no noise, which I think makes it easier and less hassle. If by chance you haven't played this game, buy it today! Date: 2005-02-12 I sunk your battleship... I loved this game as a kid and recently got back into it when I started playing online. So for Christmas last year it was one thing I asked for. I love it! Although it can be a quick game sometimes it can take forever! J but once you get going you can usually figure out which direction to go. I like to play this game with the family-even though it is for only two people we usually can find ways for everyone to play or my mom and I or sister and I will play. But, we all thoroughly enjoy it! I would recommend this for anyone who likes board games young or old. As this is one you will have a blast with. Date: 2005-02-12 Ship...Sunk! Can you sink your opponent's ships? Battleship is easy and hard at the same time. The easy part is guessing where your opponent has placed their ships; all it requires is your voice! The hard part is figuring out a successful strategy that will win you the game...my strategy is to guess every other square, since none of the boats are only one square long. Keeping track of where you have guessed is fun, for some reason. Possibly because I enjoy being organized. The red and white pegs can easily be spilled or lost, so I recommend being careful when using them. Overall, this is a great game! I recommend it to people who enjoy fun board games that require good strategies. Date: 2005-01-21 Fun and educational My 6 year old enjoys playing this game, as did I when I was a kid. Heck, I enjoy it now. It's a good educational tool as well: it teaches the concept of a grid, spatial relationships, and strategy. One criticism: the pegs can fall out of the upper grids (used to track your "shots" at your opponent's ships) too easily. One decent thump and they can fall out in bunches. It is a good idea for each player to track the other player's misses in their lower grid so that when catastrophe happens, the pegs can be restored. Date: 2005-01-02 My new battleship game I have been wanting this game for a long time. I like the idea but my only problem is the game responses. It is hard to understand when a ship has been hit. You only can tell if it takes longer or says more words. What they say I have no idea but it isnt like You made a hit, or not. You can only play this game when no one else is speaking in the room.
