User Submitted Battleship Reviews (cont...)Date: 2004-12-31 Adults might want to reconsider the new version My wife and I bought the new version of Battleship to recreate our childhood a little, figuring it's a great game that can still be enjoyed now that we're old folks. Yes, no matter what, it's still a great game. However, my main complaint is about the gaudy updated look of the game. It's too busy and really detracts from the simple beauty of this simply great game. After getting this package we were dismayed to see that you can get an almost-new version of classic Battleship on Ebay from 1960-71 for less money. For us, this would be more rewarding and we're seriously considering giving our new Battleship to the Salvation Army and buying ourselves an "original" copy. My biggest problem with the new version is that both "consoles" are the same color. A big part of the fun of this game when I was a kid was fighting over who was going to be red or blue. Of course it didn't matter, but it was essential to the fighting spirit of the game to start by arguing over whatever color the other person wanted! Date: 2004-12-25 entertaining I got this game a few years ago and it's never failed to be entertaining! I would recommend this game to any young child who knows their letters and numbers! Its easy transportability makes it perfect for long car or plane trips, the beach, long waits at the doctor's office - anyplace you want to take it. Highly recommend Date: 2004-04-14 Loses it's luster after about 12 or 13 I remember playing this as a kid and it was fun then, but I don't think all in all it's got the classic pure gaming kind of thing going for it. Too much of it is blind luck, unless you consider the ability to outguess your opponents ability to place his ships in some confusing fashion a skill. Not at all like Risk or Stratego, this isn't really a battle game at all, it's just a random guessing game. Still, it has some enjoyment factor with the younger set and it's a good child/adult game in that it doesn't take much skill to play and the luck factor can give a kid the victory. There is some logic in how you place your ships and some logic in how to attack, so I do give the game an average rating, it can be fun to play. I only awarded 4 stars for durability because small pieces are easily lost, as with any similar game, and the plastic casing and hinges can be broken rather easily.
