User Submitted Pretend and Play Calculator Cash Register Reviews (cont...)Date: 2000-11-20 Solar power yes but battery needed for beeping sounds I bought this for chritmas this year (2000) and took it out of the box to check it out. It does need a battery to make the beeping noises when pressing the buttons which I did not know. Its battery must be low because it made this weird noise like a sick alien when pressing the number buttons. You do not need to replace the battery for it to work but you'll have to suffer with that noise until you remove it or it burns out. .... Date: 2000-11-01 Can't Live Without It We were at a friends house last night and she had this toy for her 3 year old son. My 2 year old daughter could not stop playing with it. She simply loved opening the drawer and handing out the money to each person in the room. She would then collect the money and put it back. This activity kept her busy for an hour and it would have been longer except for the fact we needed to leave. I have bought her other cash register toys but none have been as realistic or kept her interest as long as this one did. I am buying one for her now and can only hope that she loves it as much as she did last night. Date: 2000-10-15 An educational, fun toy that grows with the child! We first bought this toy as a birthday gift, because our 4 year old was so fascinated with pushing the buttons to open the cash drawer. He liked the play coins that came with it, too. Over the last 5 years, it has suited his needs as he's grown. First it was a play-alone toy, fun for long stretches of time. Later, it evolved into part of a grocery store game played with friends. Over the last two years, it has been an educational tool for us to use, as he learns to add and subtract and make change, something he is also doing at school. It comes with a credit card - we haven't had to use it yet (not as much educational value for a credit card in this set up, since you can't really explain the perils of interest rates)! When friends come over, it is still a popular toy to pull out and play with. You can replace the coins (which seem to disappear) with less realistic, but inexpensive, coins you can find at any dollar store - or use real money! An excellent toy that will grow with the child!
