User Submitted Hi Ho Cherry-O Reviews (cont...)Date: 2005-03-30 Buy this game!! My 2.5 year old LOVES to play games. She is very good about taking turns, and is crazy for games. However, it's hard to find a good, simple, straight forward game for this age group. Most of them have incredibly complicated rules. This game is great. Of course, my daughter loves to count, so counting the cherries is great fun for her. She also loves to spin the spinner and she loves to say "Oh no" when you have to put the cherries back. It's a game that will last for many years. Her brother who is 19 remembers this game and will actually play it with her (sometimes). The best things: No batteries, no complicated rules, doesn't take up a lot of room like some games (with big boxes), older kids will play with younger kids, parents enjoy it, and I guess I should add that it is educational too. But most importantly it's just fun. The worst thing: No extra cherries. We have lost a couple so we can only play with 3 people, but that's fine. Date: 2005-02-15 A Game of Chance Hi Ho Cherry-O is a game of chance that includes cute little red cherries. Gameplay is very simple. You just spin the spinner and whatever number the arrow lands on is how many cherries you receive. But if you land on a dog or bird, you lose all of your cherries. The player with the most cherries wins. Aimed toward the preschool and kindergarten level, this colorful game teaches counting, as well as good sportsmanship. And parents can be free of guilt, since the game is up to chance, so you're not really lying when your child asks if you let them win! I recommend this game to little ones who aren't quite ready for the big-kid games. Date: 2005-01-26 A five-year-old's cherry picking pleasure My almost-5 year old twins love this game. As I remember from playing it as a kid, there is something so lusciously appealing about the little red, stemmed cherries. It reinforces counting, adding & subtracting skills very well. A tip: put all your cherries in a zip-top bag in the box between game play as these are considered delicacies, albeit tasteless ones, to the family dog. A classic, well worth the investment. Date: 2005-01-14 FUN, fun! But be prepared to replace the cherries! This is a GREAT game! I replayed this a few weeks ago with my now 9-year-old, and we still loved it. Of course, the reason we hadn't played in years is because some of the cherries were missing. I bought another set secondhand from Value Village, not for the board, but just for extra cherries ((...) it beat sending away to the manufacturer for them, and who cares if they're used?!?). They are also a choking hazard for little little kids, so they must be put away carefully for both reasons. This is a great first counting game, as other reviewers have said. BUT it's also a nice "easy" game with older children who don't want something grownup and complicated but who are sick of playing "Go Fish." :-)) Also, you'll find that it's a game that several family members can play even if their ages range widely. A nice game to bring together much older & younger siblings, for instance, as long as the older ones are a little tolerant of younger kids' rule-bending ("let's not put all the cherries back on the tree this time," or "that wasn't really a dog - the spinner landed on the line"). In general, it's nice and durable, even though the base is just box cardboard. The spinner can definitely survive years of abuse and all the plastic parts are simple and well-built to last. In general, this is a great game to have around. No bells or whistles, and it may never become your favourite, but it's a classic on any family game shelf! Playability on Shabbat: YES!!! (no batteries, electronics or writing) Date: 2005-01-03 Fun game for young kids with little fingers! This game arrived under the Christmas tree for my 3-year-old. He likes playing the game and especially likes playing with the cherries! Good for counting, adding & subtracting. 3 stars for durablilty because I'm sure these cherries won't be around long. Game comes with only enough for 4 players...no extras for the ones that get lost in the sofa! Only other complaint is that the cherries and buckets are too small. My husband and I have a difficult time picking cherries out of the bucket. Would it have killed the makers to add just a few inches to the board?! And throw in a few extra cherries!
