Classic Game!
Pros:
-Classic. Simple game love by many for years.
-Silly and fun even for grown-ups. My 3 year old has been waiting for Santa for months (Seen from TV ad). This has been his most wished for toy. The excitement on his face was priceless when he saw it under the tree.

Cons:
-Warning (Choking Hazard): for those who has little kids who love to put everything in their mouths, the balls are scary small and looks very tempting to put in the mouth.
-Needs assembly which is not super-easy
-If you do not want noisy and loud toys.

If you want to have more fun. Check out YouTube for hilarious videos of grown-ups playing hungry hippos, hungry hippo olympics, etc.

Extremely poor quality
I was excited to buy this for my kids since I enjoyed it as a kid, but they sure don't make 'em like they used to. This really is the most flimsy, cheap plastic game I have ever seen; and the hippos stick frequently. If I would have tried it first, I never would have purchaed this and I'll keep this in mind for future purchases.
I'm not a frequent reviewer so something has to be really great or really crappy. I didn't even buy it at Amazon, I was browsing other games and saw it here and had to review it.

Great game for eye/hand coordination
My children, now in their thirties, played this game when they were little and I just purchased it for my six year old grandson. This is one toy that has withstood the test of time!I just hate it when I lose marbles!

Fun game...poor construction
My son received this for Christmas, and while he loves it, it isn't made that great, hence the reason for 3 stars. Education wise...it is great for teaching counting, and who has more, and finding the difference "How many more do I have?" So there is some math hidden in the game. The product could be better if it were a one piece construction, like the one I had as a child in the 80's. You have to assemble before you play, and properly take it all apart to get it to fit in the box...hard for young kids to do.

The first thing I noticed was that 2 hippos would get stuck. Before the first use, the parent really needs to break the toy in for young kids. Otherwise it won't be much fun to stop several times midgame to fix the hippo, it is frustrating for my child to fix it on his own.

The second thing has to do with taking it apart. The pieces do not slide out easily, but you need force to take it apart. Some of the plastic that holds the hippo in the board have broken off during the first time we went to disassemble the game.

Bottom line..while the game is fun for kids...once it is assembled do not take it apart, and trash the box.. Keep the marbles in a baggie and tape it to the game. This is much easier for the kids to take it out when they want to play with it, and store it again.

Hungry Hippo a timeless toy!
I guess as a child you don't realize how cheap this toy really is. The yellow hippo came with a "crease" in the plastic so it doesn't work properly. And you just can't really play it on the carpet. But overall, still a timeless toy that can teach you child to numbers, colors, to share, to play fair, and the hard lesson of winning and loosing. My 3 1/2 year old loves it - although it is cheaply made. Don't think this falls on the shipper.
