Great toy, needs a little work, but worth it.
I disagree with some of the reviews that say the wood is like balsa and the floor is flimsy. To me, that seems like a bit of an exageration. I mean, it's not two by fours, but it's just fine for it's use. I don't think the floor is thin at all (I was worried after reading that). I mean, it's built to hold 250 pounds, I think it can do that with this floor. I wish the sides were screwed together instead of nailed, but it will be a long time before this becomes a problem, and it's easily fixed.
Now, the finish... this was a dissapointment. Radio Flyer should go back to it's roots. I can see if your not very handy, this would be a problem. I think the bottom wood would be fine, but the red rails were very poorly protected. I can definetly see how the red paint would rub off on kids hands. It had already rubbed off on the other wood in the package. After reading these reviews, I knew I was going to have to do a little work before assembeling it.
It's really not that hard. I just bought a can of water based satin polyurithane and put two coats on all the surfaces. I'm sure you could get away with one, and I probably didn't have to do the bottom, but since I was doing it anyway I figured I might as well do it well. You can also buy poly in a spray which would have been easier, I just prefer to brush it on. All in all it took an extra day of work (between my mom duties) and it's ready to go.
I know it's been said many times, but the pads that are sold for this do not fit. I checked them out in Toys R Us, they are way too small. Buy the umbrella from the store, it's cheaper. I made my own pads (just the bottom and one back so the rails can still be taken off) out of some foam, some no-rip nylon and a zipper so I can take off the fabric and wash it because I'm sure it will get filthy. This also was not a big deal and way better than paying the $60 that the pads cost elsewhere.
After all that, the wagon is great. It's going to last a long time and give great enjoyment to all the kids it will go through. I'm glad I spent the extra $$ for this model, I am very pleased with it (other than what I mentioned above).

Paint Chipped
I only had the wagon a month and all the stain and paint started to chip off. It is a durable wagon, but was not happy with chipping.

Best buy for 2 kids close in age!!
My mom bought this as a present for my then four year old daughter, but I began using it for her younger brothers aged NB and 18 months and bought her a smaller version to haul her dolls. It fit an infant car seat and toddler perfect, is versitable enough to last and on long outings allowed the older room to move unlike a tandum stroller. That was ten years ago. Now I've started a "second family" with a large 21month old son and another son due in 5 weeks. This item was a natural choice, due to my childs size (32pounds). Most tandum strollers allow only 40pounds per seat, so he would quickly out-grow it. With the wagon he can be in it longer and when both boys outgrow it they can use it to haul all their treasures. It also lasts almost forever (we lost our last one in a fire a year and a half ago after having it for 8 years). It was a little weathered but still sturdy (we did have to replace two brackets on one side due to stunt riding!). I can enthusiasticly say this was the best child purchase I've ever made!!!

Great Wagon
Wagons today have the door, plastic all over, and the front wheels that don't steer with the handle. I think my kids are out-growing that and I wanted a traditional wagon with pneumatic tires for easy pulling over gravel roads. It was easy to put together. The underside was unfinished so I sprayed it with polyurethane. Lots of room inside. Don't forget to get the correct cushions for #39. A great wagon at a great price.

Great for beach,yard, zoo, anywhere!
I researched our wagon purchase for months before I bought this wagon. We have 3 kids - 4,3 & 1 yr old - and it works great for all of them! We take it for walks to the beach, in the yard on bug hunts, the zoo, park, aquarium..it is so easy to pull. It does not get stuck. It does not rust if left out in the rain in Hawaii and i prefer it over my stroller. I would recommend this wagon over any other.
