The structure is simple: a platform and the snapable parts. This makes visualizing the path of the current modular and easy, and the light, sound and fan effects are, of course, for 8-year-old boys, stimulating. My son understood how the resistor could be replaced with others with higher or lower values, or none at all, and had loads of fun making his sister jump when she triggered the sound by walking by. The packaging has its intentions - to keep things neat and tidy - but the whole box takes up too much space. I'm going to have to find another way of storing the parts. Date: 2008-01-14 Hands on is still fun! I got this for my 7 Y.O. son. I didn't realize that all of my children would be interested in it. All the way up to my 16 Y.O. It teaches the basics of electricity and keeps them focused. This "toy" is giving my children an understanding of electricity in a way that I wasn't able to explain. I love it!! Date: 2008-01-14 Educational and Fun Got this for my 7 year old son for Christmas. He and I set up several circuts to get him started. Once we did that he was making up his own rather quickly. Trying new circuts and trying to figure out why they worked the way he expected or not. He has graduated to putting alarms on everything from the refrigerator door to rigging his sister's pillow to beep. He loves it. Very durable so far. Date: 2008-01-14 Snap Circuits WOW!!!! This was a huge hit with my 12 year old son! Instead of getting the usual nintendo games and having him spend his time sitting on the couch playing a mindless battle, he's learning how to make a sound amplifyer, make a light switch turn on, create fluctuations in radio sound waves and all kinds of things!! He's already gone through 35 of the projects and he can't wait until I initial the rest of them for him! (I love the fact that there is a little box next to the project descriptions so that I can initial all of the experiments as he progresses!)I highly recommend this to any parent who wants their child to have fun doing something with their curiosity and desire to know HOW stuff works! Date: 2008-01-13 Fun and educational We bought this for our 9-year old son and it was an instant hit. It's easy for him to follow the instructions and make stuff happen, and then as he reads further he understand more about how & why it's working.
