User Submitted Leapfrog Fridge Words Magnetic Word Builder Reviews (cont...)Date: 2008-12-17 Fun for kids, but not super educational We got this for my eldest daughter hoping to help her learn her letters and letter sounds. I must say that I'm extremely disappointed in the phonics portion of it (I am a teacher as it happens). It only gives one possible sound when often a letter makes two or more sounds. Additionally, the sounds it claims the letters make are inaccurate and difficult to discern. It consistently adds some type of vowel sound to the ends of consonants. For example, it says that the letter m says "muh" when it should say that the letter m says "mmm." So if you are looking for a toy that will teach your child phonics accurately, this is not that toy. Also, the thing chews through batteries like no one's business. My daughter does love sticking letters on it though and listening to the songs, so for entertainment value I give it a slightly better rating. And in case you were wondering, it will not say anything remotely like a cuss word (not that I tried or anything...). Date: 2008-12-10 disappointed with Leap Frog My 2 1/2 year old son loved his fridge phonics and learned all of his capitol letters with it. I bought this product hoping to expand his knowledge. I like that lowercase letters are used, but I am so disappointed that leap frog has resized the letters to be smaller than the leap frog fridge phonics. I was hoping to teach him to use uppercase letters for names (Sam, Dan, Etc.) as well as lowercase, but now I can't. They don't even appear to have an uppercase expansion pack. Leap Frog dropped the ball on this one. Date: 2008-12-09 Does not work with Fridge phonic letters I specifically bought this because I was missing letters on my fridge phonics and a reviewer said they worked with hers. My fridge phonics (uppercase letters that do sounds) Are much bigger then these and they would not even come close to fitting in the spaces. I have not decided if I want to keep this toy as it is still a nice toy to have......but I have the animal farm fridge toy and the letter fridge toy and now this and none of them are interchangeable so I need to decide if enough is enough. Until then it will sit in my gift bin. educational wise I think it is great and playing with it while it is still packaged it looks like everything works well. Date: 2008-11-19 upper or lower case letters? Just confused by the pics. Does this come with upper or lower case letters? or both? i'm looking for one of the leap frog items with lower case letters. Date: 2008-11-15 Letters are NOT interchangeable with OLD version Fridge Phonics My daughter loves this Fridge Words. However, I wanted to post that the letters are NOT interchangeable with the old version Fridge Phonics with the frog on it. The Fridge Words letters are smaller than the older Fridge Phonics letters and neither works with the other. I'm disappointed to learn this because I bought her the Fridge Phonics when she was younger and now that she's the right age for the Fridge Words, they've resized the letters. Looking at the store, it looks like the letters are interchangeable with the new Fridge Phonics with the sun on it.
