The CURSE of Blackmoor Manor
This game was challenging, and I loved it. It was not challenging in the sense where SECRET OF THE SCARLETT HAND was challenging (where you had to read and learn everything), but in the sense were you have to figure out the puzzles with the bits of information you had and if you couldn't figure it out you may as well stick with the rest of the Nancy Drew Series. I am glad HER is making the series grow with the players. I have played all of the ND games including the ones after this and this one is still my favorite. To those that say it disappointed them because it had witchcraft, and stupid things like horriscopes, what did you expect from buying a game called "CURSE of Blackmoor Manor". I mean seriously, last time I checked alchemy was a science not "witchcraft". I do admit the surprise at 3:15 was a little akward, but merley a scare tactic for players. It wasn't witchcraft either it was simply Jane puring oil through pipes(maybe it had something to do with unlocking another family secret) that's what her family passed down, secrets, not devil worship. Also, in other ND games thay have had ghosts, tarot cards ,psychics, and other "spooky" things. If your not comfortable enough with your religion to realize that not everyone realizes the "truth" then I'm sorry your close minded views should be enough to lock you in a closet with a bible and a lit candle. I'm not here to debate the views or beliefs of others, but to praise this game for its great features. If your an intelligent teenager or older, who loves a good mystery/adventure game and can withstand learning a little about alchemy then buy it. It is well worth the money.

A really fun game that helps a young girl rely on her mind.
I bought this game for my ten year old daughter and we played it every night after school/work. (At her request and instead of T.V.) It proved to be very challenging for both of us and gave us about 30 hours of father/daughter fun before we solved it. We also both learned a lot about logic, reasoning, problem solving and about interesting subjects such as ancient runes, astronomy, latin, alchemy, and the list goes on. There are two levels of difficulty. The easier of the two, which gives you more hints and some less stringent tasks, is probably designed for girls from around 9 to 12 years old. The harder-probably for 13 and older (including parents!) All in all, in a world where computer games either completely lack any redeeming qualities or are so "educational" that they become boring after the first ten minutes, this game, and likely the whole Nancy Drew collection, are worth every penny you spend on them.

pretty good
This game was alot of fun! At first, I didn't think I would like it because I thought it had to do w/ witchcraft & other stuff like that, but in the end, the story has a logical explination for everything. This IS the hardest ND(Nancy Drew) game yet, but it is still fun and I, personally like a challenge in ND games.

P.S.( sorry about the 1 star rating, it wouldn't erase when I came back to edit my review when I realized I liked the game.)

OCCULT FUN!!
Blackmoor is a fun game! Great puzzles, independent smaller games (board games, cards, memory, etc.) that are actually fun to play (and this, I think, is something of a novelty, games inside of games), rich characterization, great classic story, controls that are for the most part quick and intuitive, (important for impatient games like myself.) But Blackmoor is also smart. Ptolemy is here, Greek mythology, astrology (Chinese, too), runes, the planets including their symbols, horticulture, astronomy, gargoyles, alchemy, too. Jane, a young character in the game, is being tutored at the Manor in the "proper" studies, which include French, History, and some other things which are to remain secret. Sometimes on passing her door while she is in a lesson, you can overhear her French lesson, a real French lesson. Or a real History lesson, the Hundred Years War, or Waterloo. Also, each other name and symbol used in the game is the real deal. Runes,The Book of the Dead, Latin, planetary symbols, zodiac, constellations. And Alchemy, genuine names and symbols. Fantastic! However, I feel that parents maybe should get a heads-up first about the content, because the game's target audience is "10 & Up". Some parents may hesitate to expose a 10-year-old child to these concepts. Golden Dawn parents, get this game! I gave the game four stars because, as a Nancy Drew game, there are a lot of clues and hints, in the cell phone, in the diary, Nancy herself, and some of the puzzles can ONLY be solved using an obscure give-a-way that can ONLY be found in the "cheat" diary. This is not Myst. But it is probably what a kid plays before he/she grows up to play 'Dark Fall'. Toodles!

Challenging, Scary, and Fun
I have played all 13 Nancy Drew games that are currently out, and this is one of the scariest, if not THE scariest. There are many puzzles and I found myself stuck frequently, which is why I gave this 4 stars instead of 5. However, each time I was able to get out of whatever the problem was. It was still frustrating though. Unless you are very optimistic about your gameplay, the first time you play, play on the Junior Detective level instead of Senior Detective. This is a very hard game -- if you are buying a Nancy Drew mystery game for somebody about 10 years old, you probably should go with one of the earlier games that is less scary (Message in a Haunted Mansion is a good one to start with ... I wouldn't recommend Secrets can Kill and Stay Tuned for Danger, they were the first two games ever made and the graphics are poor. Anything after that is good). These games are all fun and worth the money, I think, and personally I can't wait for more of them to come out. After you have played several of them, it is fun to go back and play them again -- while you still remember the bad guy in the end and sometimes where there are secret passageways and things, you don't remember all of the details (or at least I didn't!). Good luck!
