User Submitted Melissa and Doug Deluxe Jumbo Carboard Blocks Reviews (cont...)Date: 2007-12-24 Castle Blocks My children got these blocks as a Christmas present and love them. As a child I had them and wanted my children to have them since I always had so much fun with them. This is a great toy for all ages. It helps to use your imganation to create wonderful creations. Date: 2007-12-18 6 + 6 does not = 12 (sizing a little off) I wouldn't knock this toy for its play value. Just about every night my 22 mo. old asks me to build with him. He loves to create towers with tunnels for his trains and vehicles to go through. These blocks are really fabulous for their value in creative play. My issue is that they are not perfectly unit sized as advertised. You cannot stack two blue blocks next to a vertically placed red block and expect the three blocks to make a flat base for the addition of more blocks. Two blues (or two yellows) are slightly shorter than one red. There are still tons of opportunities for imaginative building but this issue does limit the possibilities. Also, although the blocks are surprisingly sturdy, light, and delightfully fun for toddlers to knock over, fall into, run through, etc.; they have relatively sharp corners. My son has been scratched - no blood but enough pain to cause tears - on one or two occasions. He is now a bit more tempered in his exhuberance because of these experiences, but the potential is still there. So every time he gets excited and wants to "topple and tackle" the blocks we have a talk about the sharp corners and he calms down a bit. I mention these issues primarily to provide some balance to the other glowing reviews. I still love the blocks and would highly recommend them, hence the four stars. - Just know there are a few limitations. Date: 2007-12-15 Fun for everyone!! These blocks take a little time to put together and be prepared for some serious parer cuts if your not careful. But my 20 month old son enjoys building towers, castles, chairs and roads for his cars to drive on. He also loves standing and jumping on them, while he's being held of course. They are very sturdy! My only complaint would be there is too many of the small yellow blocks and not enough large red ones. But I would recommend them because they are count less ways to play with them and they're a reasonable price. Date: 2007-12-07 Excellent choice for my little ones My 3-year-old, his little sister and their friends pull out these blocks daily. Very sturdy, with a slightly slick surface. I've even been able to pull off stickers (gingerly!) without damaging the surface. I've seen my 35-lb son standing on them (I do discourage such behavior)and the blocks didn't buckle from that abuse. You will see how sturdy they are when you fold them together - it took a while (maybe and hour or a little over) to 'construct' all 40 (they come flat). For the money and the amount of use, it's probably the most cost-effective toy I've purchased. Easy to 'share', encourages group play, great for the active child and the more sedate 'thinker', as well as younger ones developing motor skills. Lots of creativity, and Dad likes to play too! I almost passed on these because we had smaller wooden blocks and plastic connector blocks, but the larger size seems more fun for the kids and makes cleanup easier for me - the big selling point! Date: 2007-11-20 Nice big blocks!!! These were easy to put together & they give you a very big box filled with cardboard bricks. My son is building houses, castles, farms; really whatever he can think up. He even made a vet clinic & put all of his animals inside. The shipping was pretty fast. I ordered it, and before I knew it it was here already.
