My five year old loves it.
Got this for my daughter for Christmas. Got her a bunch of other stuff too. She plays with this the most. She loves it. Loves it. I think it's really cool and a good deal. Glad I bought it. Now I just have to get more games for her to play.

Toy
At first my grandson didn't like the product. He didn't understand it! Once he got the directions explained to him, he couldn't put it down!!! Pretty good for a four year old.

GREAT gift for my 4 year old
My daughter, who is a few months away from turning five years old, got this for Christmas. We're thrilled with it. She's a pre-reader, so she can spell her name and recognize a handful of words, but not much else. I assumed that she wouldn't be able to fully enjoy the Leapster until she could really read, but I was wrong. She has already played it for hours and has never asked us for help at all. I am very comfortable with this toy and would definitely recommend it for any kid aged 4-7 as the box suggests. And no worries if the giftee doesn't read--this can still be a great gift.

It's ok.
I got this for my 5 year old son for Christmas. He really likes video games so I figured he would enjoy this. I can't say that he would rather play this than our PS2, but he has been reaching for it every now and then. My main complaint is the poor quality of graphics in the games. The games are so expensive, and the graphics are so crappy! Also, this unit can get heavy for little hands. I bought my oldest son a Nintendo DS for Christmas, and that thing blows this Leapster out of the water. I guess you really do get what you pay for! My best word of advice is, try to find the games sold in groups on eBay or something. They are just not worth the retail price.
