User Submitted LeapFrog® Leapster® Learning Game System - Green Reviews (cont...)Date: 2008-01-01 Santa nailed it this year! As a gift that my daughter was NOT expecting - this Leapster has proven to be her favorite. At a little over 4, I was amazed at how quickly she learned the controls and features. Within minutes of starting her first game cartridge (Go Diego Go Animal Rescuer), she was successfully racking up points in Level 2! The games (we have 3 others) seem to balance education and fun in such a way as to keep a normally short-attention-spanned child entertained for up to an hour. Plus, it's fun to hear a child exclaim "mom, I saved the pygmy marmoset in level 3!". The buttons and stylus are perfectly suited for kid hands and the unit feels durable and cleans up quite easily. Battery life seems to be good too - much to my surprise. Overall, we are very happy with this purchase...way to go Santa! Date: 2007-12-31 1 Broken in Under 24 hours; 2nd One Lasted 1 Week My mother bought my twin four year old boys two Leapsters. The boys opened their Leapsters on Christmas Eve. One of the Leapsters was broken in less than 24 hours, becoming completely inoperable by Christmas morning. It is totally dead and is now the functional equivalent of a doorstop. So for a week, I'd see one child sitting on the sofa and playing with a Leapster while the other watched over his shoulder. Well, now they are even. The other model is now broken too. It shuts down in the middle of games--but hey, at least it still starts up and it lasted A WHOLE WEEK!! I'm totally DISGUSTED with these products. I know what my mother paid for two units, and she blew even more money on three cartridges. You are better off buying a cheap PC for your kids to use. These Leapsters have only a 3 month warranty! To me, that indicates that these are disposable toys, to be enjoyed for a few hours, days, or weeks. Better off to just give your kid a roll of quarters and head to the video arcade. What bothers me even more? These aren't learning toys. This is just grooming. What the toy manufacturers want is for your children to be numb, distracted, glazed over, and totally distracted by pressing video game buttons. Toymakers want your money. That is all that is going on here. I don't believe that my kids learned one damn thing in a whole week with their one functioning Leapster other than Buyer Beware. But by the time I explained that, I realized that I was blowing Santa's cover. Now my kids know that Santa didn't bring these toys--their grandmother got ripped off buying them. Date: 2007-12-30 Leapster - Great Value - Grows with the Kids LeapFrog Leapster Learning Game System The game system (without cartridges) is an excellent learning experience for preschoolers. This is the 2nd one I've bought for my grandkids and the experience grows with them through the game cartridges that are available - preschool through grade school. It's a sturdy system, and while I don't recommend that it be dropped like ours has, ours has been dropped repeatedly and still works great. Date: 2007-12-29 Durable enough for a 3 1/2 year old!! Hi, the Leapster has been great so far for my 3 1/2 year old son who has already dropped it on our tile floor without any damage to the toy. He also enjoys the built in games and has the dora pinata party cartridge game which he enjoys also. I like its portability because we happen to be in the car alot and he'll be able to practice his letters, etc.. while on the go. Whereas the Leap Frog unit you plug into the TV is more restricive. Date: 2007-12-29 LeapFrog Leapster I bought a LeapFrog for my then 4-year-old grandson last year, and his 2-year-old brother loves to use it so much that his mother suggested I get him one of his own (in another color, of course.) The older boy brought his when the family came here for Xmas and was constantly using it. When the 2-year-old opened his gift, he wouldn't put it down. I've never seen either boy so fascinated with a "toy" for so long a time. It's really a wonderful educational and and fun product.
