User Submitted LEGO Mindstorms NXT Reviews (cont...)Date: 2007-06-26 way too complicated for a child My son is 11 and was very disappointed with this set. The kids who get a lot out of it are kids whose parents are programmers and software types. There are minimal instructions, just diagrams with very little in the way of explanation. He built the first robot but tired of having to figure it out. He hasn't taken it out after that very first time. This is really targeted to adults. Lego has almost no support for it. No idea books, nothing. You have to search the internet for it. They are depending upon third party people to do this for them. We went to Legoland this week on a trip to California and were excited to learn that there was a Mindstorms class that you could sign up to take. Guess what- they are using the old mindstorms sets, not the NXT, despite the fact that NXT has been out for a year! Unbelieveable! No books in the shop for NXT, no idea books, nothing. How ridiculous. If you are an engineer or a programmer get this for your kid or for yourself. If not, I'd stay away. Cool idea, but this is really hard for kids to figure out on their own Date: 2007-06-14 great intro to robotics Mindstorms gave my 9 year-old a great introduction to programming and robotics. He had fun assembling the various robots and then programming them on the computer via the easy-to-use graphical programming tool on the PC. The step-by-step instructions were easy to understand (if you are a Lego gear-head) and gave periodic opportunities to test out the partially completed project. Date: 2007-05-12 Awesome Toy We ordered one of these and loved it so much we had to order another. Now we have competitions and it really challenges the kids to try to out program Dad. This is definitely not just a kids toy, even though my 9 and 11 year old picked it up easily. I highly recommend the book "Lego Mindstorms NXT, The Mayan Adventure". It takes you step by step in building and programing several bots as it leads you through a story. This is a great toy. The only thing that limits you is your imagination. Spendy but tons of fun! Date: 2007-03-29 Lego Mindstorms not only for kids I bought this Lego Mindstorms for my son, then I was traveling in the USA for a couple weeks. He appeared to be not so interested in building with it. But I am!!! This is the ultimate challenging Lego-toy for Fathers. Try to figure out what it can do and find an extra feature by yourself. it's FUN!!! Date: 2007-03-08 Awesome product! I purchased the Mindstorm kit for my 13 yr. old son, after he'd been begging for it the past year. This was 3 months ago and he still plays with it daily. He loves to build and compete against his friends who have the kit as well. A great product, as is everything by Lego!
