User Submitted Disney Princess Shimmering Lights Ariel Doll ReviewsDate: 2008-09-07 Beautiful and surprisingly versatile I bought this doll for my three year old niece because she loves Ariel. I thought it would be nice for her to have at night because of the lights in the mermaid tale. At the time, I didn't realize the mermaid talks, too. I never thought she could go in water, but we read the directions and put the doll in the tub. Just like the directions said, the mermaid's voice was a little garbled when she came out, if she spoke at all. However, all we had to do was blow into the mermaid's chest and clear the water. She spoke as well as before. Over the weekend, Ariel went to the pool and the tub, in and out many times, and she worked well every time. This is now my niece's favorite mermaid toy! I'm not sure how educational the toy is; therefore, I only gave this two stars. However, I bought the toy for fun, not education. I'm very satisfied! Date: 2007-11-24 Don't buy - especially at this current price!!! This was one of my daughter's most anticipated Chrismtas Gifts - and also brought the most tears! While I agree that (when it works) it is quite beautiful and she was thrilled with the look, I experienced the same disappointments as previous posters. While it claims to be a water toy - following its first trip into the tub, it began to malfunction. Some posters say that the voice came back after it had time to dry out but ours was never the same again. The TERRIFYING screeching noise it made as it died mortified my 4-year old who cried more tears over the demise of this one toy than anything she had previously owned. I cannot understand its current listed price at $54.95! Even if it had worked as stated, it wouldn't have been worth half that price! Avoid this toy - even if you plan to not put it into the water, I think consumers should rally against it on principle - it doesn't do what it is marketed to and has the potential to mortify young children. Date: 2007-11-22 So Pretty and !!! I bought this for my niece because she likes little mermaid. I searched a lot for Ariel but none of the other dolls I found were as pretty as this one.... I wish the sound were more clear. I am Very Pleased. Date: 2007-10-02 My Girl's Best Friend **October 2007** We bought this around New Years 2007 at an after-holiday sale for about $10. Ariel quickly became one of my daughters top three favorite Christmas toys. I took the advice of other reviewers and Ariel has never seen a bath tub. I didn't even make my daughter aware that Ariel *could* go underwater. --Very portable, goes along for car rides, to sitters house, to Nana's house. --Not overly-loud. Regardless of what else I've read, Ariel doesn't scream or screech, maybe that bad sideaffect is from getting the doll wet. She sings in a pretty voice, that my daughter repeats over and over. --Durable. (Excepting water) I've seen Ariel walloped, rip-brushed, chewed on. Beside the OCCASIONAL glittery red strand of hair lying around, she's withstood ten months of real playing. A truly lovable little doll that if you can find on discount, will fill hours of play with your kiddo. **November 2008** Almost two years passed and Ariel is still singing and still being played with! Date: 2007-09-14 cute but don't put in water this is a cute toy for any little mermaid fan but it did not last long; It worked great for about a month and then I purchased new batteries which cost about $8.00 and shortly after it stopped working. There was some corrosion when I opened the battery case. I will be contacting the manufacturer.
