User Submitted Melissa and Doug Wooden Shape Sorting Clock Reviews (cont...)Date: 2008-09-28 Great clock: educational AND fun One of my kids is interested in telling time, and another is interested in shapes. They both like playing with this clock. I read a lot of reviews that complained that the 5 has six sides and the 6 has five sides. Mine must be a later model, because the 5 has five sides and the 6 has six sides. But even if they were the old way, I wouldn't have been bothered by this at all: the 2 has four sides and the 9 has four sides and the 10 has four sides and the 11 has four sides and the 12 has ten sides---so the number of sides don't correspond to the number on the shape, and they're clearly not supposed to. With a gizmo you assume, or hope it will talk to your child and teach them how to tell time. But we have quite a few of those gizmos and my kids don't play with them a quarter of the time they play with this. Yes, I noticed that the pentagon and the hexagon are reversed in numeric value, but so what. It took a minute to explain that to my daughter and she moved on. It turns out, it was just another learning opportunity. This very colorful clock has been around our house for years. It takes a licking and keeps on ticking too. This requires parent participation, it doesn't talk to the child but it really educates them. It gives them something to hold onto, both literally and figuratively. This is a really good toy. She likes to put the different shapes in the holes but isn't too interested in learning the time part of it. I have a 1 year old and she likes to get the pieces and put them all the way in her mouth so please beware around smaller children. Date: 2008-09-15 Nice colors, design, concept Overall good product. the onside is a little too busy, but the shapes and colors are very nice. My daughter only chooses this toy ocassionally over others. Date: 2008-09-12 My Daughter doesn't know she is learning My 3yr old loves this clock. Right now it is a really fun puzzle with numbers she recognizes. However, the learning value is huge. First of all, it is self-correcting. The numbers only fit in one place and there is a small number next to the puzzle piece so not only will one piece fit in that spot, there is also a correctly positioned smaller number to use as a guide. Secondly, it is durable and very attractive. I put out now and again and she is always drawn to it. She loves to point out the numbers and is proud because she can count "forward and backward". The hour and minute hands maneuver very well and are easy to distinguish from each other. a very well-made and attractive toy/learning tool.
