User Submitted Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Chomp and Clack Alligator Push Toy ReviewsDate: 2008-12-01 A super cute push toy I bought this for an infant classroom. It is such a cute push toy. The crocs clack when you push the cart. Some of the children were initially a little timid of the clacking and moving of the crocs, but enjoy it now. Date: 2008-09-12 yikes! splintered wood, falling hazard- who knew?! Wow, what a bummer. We have lots of Melissa and Doug toys, and I've always been very happy with their quality and durability. This one however, is shameful! My first clue should have been as I was taking it out of the box, the top layer of cheap wood splintered off. Had I bought it in a store, I'd have taken it right back. This was a birthday present for our daughter though, and bought online, so I thought "Well, it's just one strip of wood." Our child loved this toy right away...that being said, within the first week the entire area of blue wood began splintering off. All over the floor. Not only could my daughter have choked on a piece, but she could have scraped or cut herself, etc. Cheap craftsmanship aside, my daughter has lost her balance and toppled over the top bar twice, and hit her head on the wooden alligators. Now, the toy didn't cause her to lose her balance, but considering this is a toy made for toddlers, and toddlers tend to topple, wouldn't they have thought of the possible injuries? Overall, an INCREDIBLE DISAPPOINTMENT and I'm sorry to say that it's made me a little wary of Melissa and Doug toys in general. Date: 2008-08-08 Wooden Chomp & Clack Alligator Push Toy The toy was a gift for our 1-year old granddaughter and was enjoyed by her instantly. It is very sturdy and has been a help as she learns to walk on her own. Only drawbacks are that the paint began to chip right away and one wheel came off and had to be glued back on. Date: 2008-07-23 dangerous due to poor quality We bought this for my daughter's first birthday and she loved it during the first week she played with it. However, wooden slivers from the plywood side panel began flaking and breaking off almost immediately. Each broken piece is about an inch long and incredibly dangerous. We have taken it away from her and will be returning it as soon as I have time. What a shame. I previously loved Melissa & Doug products. Date: 2008-06-28 A Way to Save $25 if You Want to Keep Your Rugs I bought this for my daughter when she was starting to walk, and it is a nice-looking thing; wooden and retro and the alligators are very cute and all that. However, I just don't see how this can be any good unless you live in, like, The Overlook Hotel or some big modern loft with smoothly carpeted or concrete floors. Because this thing just does not work in a little Craftsman bungalow with wonky hardwoods covered in oriental rugs. It gets caught on everything (especially fringes) and causes baby much frustration with steering because of the wheels, you see. I've found that my daughter (who walks well on her own now) much prefers to push around a $5 plastic laundry basket which has the added bonus of providing a place for her to ride when I push her.
