fun but defective engine
This is my Christmas 2008 gift for my 3-year old son. It is easy to handle, a 3 yr old can snap the tracks together. The only problem is the defective engine. He was able to play with the train set by pushing the engine manually on the train tracks. I called Fisher Price 12/26/08 and the company promptly told us it will send a replacement for the engine. I am sure my son will fully enjoy this when we get the replacement engine.

Grand Central Station - Lots Of Fun!
The Grand Central Station is a great toy. This is the first set that offers an engine that goes backwards. What a nice feature. The remote control's built in sound is also a nice feature upgrade. The elevator shaft and the cargo chute are a little hard to get to for an adult, because they are recessed underneath the main platform, however kids hands are small and they can reach.

If you want some great track layout ideas, there are four track layout manuals on eBay. Just search for "geotrax track layout manual" and you'll find them. Volume 6 is new and uses the Grand Central Station extensively.

Withstands the test of time
We began purchasing Geo Trax components when my son was 2 years old - at the time he was becoming a true "trainiac" and he absolutely loved this system. What I loved was the durability of the pieces and their ability to withstand toddler mayhem. Pieces snap together easily, and though they can come apart if stepped on, this doesn't happen easily and they hold together far better than most train sets geared toward toddlers. I also loved the price compared to the cost of the wooden train systems on the market (though I would say that the current $110 price on this set is too high -- $50 - $60 is more reasonable).
At any rate, new pieces to the system are added each year and yes, the set can become quite large (I do recommend buying sets of extra track). We have ours stored in large plastic containers in the basement and the kids (now 4 and 7) still spend a considerable amount of time playing with the Geo Trax system. Figuring out the track layouts once you've collected multiple sets is lots of fun and can get quite complex (great if you're a puzzle lover, can be a little frustrating if you're not) with 2 or even 3 layers of track and multiple switches. Battery life has been a bit of an issue and trains really start to slow down as their batteries are drained -- this may be a reflection of the large amount of use our system gets, though.
Highly recommended overall -- one of the best toy values as far as "bang for the buck" in our experience since this has kept the attention of our kids for 5 years (and counting). The younger kids will love just driving the trains (or airplanes or trucks....) around the tracks and as they get older they can begin to build their own track layouts which requires some planning and logic skills.

In summary:

Pros: Durable
Lasting entertainment value - good for kids 2 yr. old to 7+
Price - better pricing for components than that of wooden sets in our experience
New expansion sets each year add to variety

Cons: Battery life
Difficult to find components released in previous years to add to set

Geotrax Central Station is a hit!!
My son asked for this for his 5th birthday. He loves it. He constantly changes the track configurations and he purchased more tracks with the gift card he received. The set seems very durable and the station was very easy to put together.

Disappointed
This toy is not as stable as I thought it would be. My grandson was constantly bumping it and it was coming apart. I wish I would have purchased something different.
